Last year we became official partners of The Northern Powerhouse.

This means we’ve joined the effort to boost the northern economy by investing in skills, innovation, transport and culture.

As one of the largest employers for digital roles in the north, we came together with other northern digital businesses a couple of weeks ago to introduce them to The Northern Powerhouse.

On Friday 13th April, we hosted a breakfast event at AO Manchester, where we invited local businesses such as Moneysupermarket.com, Vodafone and Well Pharmacy to discuss how we can close the digital skills gap by investing in education and skills. We got together to drive the conversation about this fundamental issue with the means to find a solution.

As a northern business we take our responsibility to close this skills gap seriously, to try and sell the North as a ‘tech hub’. The North is full of potential and we want digital experts to want to work here

Alex Hughes, our ‘head of people’ and Chris Piercy, our ‘digital recruitment specialist’, presented to other businesses the challenges we face in recruiting the right talent. Henry Sorotos, from Tech Nation was our special guest, and he spoke about how the digital skills gap in the north is both a crisis and an opportunity! Inspiring words sparked conversation as we split into groups to share ideas and opinions over a Starbucks and a pastry.

Head of people, Alex Hughes said:

“It’s safe to say the event was a success, we hope to host more like it and maintain a great relationship with businesses based in Manchester and continue to support The Northern Powerhouse and its vision.”
