New research has revealed a surprising divide in how Brits, and their star signs, approach cleaning. While 70% of them believe that cleaning helps reduce stress, not all star signs feel the same way.
A new survey among 2000 Brits, from online electrical retailer AO, found that Taurus’ take the crown as the most relaxed cleaner. With over three quarters (76%) of them saying they find cleaning a stress reliever, only 15% of Virgos agree, despite their reputation for being the most organised.
AO have teamed up with cleaning expert Bea Elton (@cleanwithbea, 1M+ followers), to educate Brits on how scent can play a huge role in shaping our mood and motivation. She explained:
“I’ve seen many of the positive impacts that cleaning has had on people up and down the country and adding scent to your routine is a great way to boost those endorphins.
“Cleaning not only helps increase productivity and influences your mood, but it also positively impacts your mental well-being. A simple trick is to add a few drops of essential oil to the water tank of your steam cleaner. As you clean your floors, the heat helps neutralise odours while filling your home with your favourite scent.”
The research also looked into the nation’s approach to the annual spring clean and revealed that 1 in 9 Brits planned on skipping the spring cleaning this year. Despite this, the UK population spends almost 160 million hours a year spring cleaning their homes.
When it comes to home fragrances, only 21% of Brits admitted to choosing cleaning their cleaning products based on scent.
When it comes to freshening up the home, citrus is the UK’s go-to scent as a third of people said it was their favourite. Each star sign has its own fragrance preference, here’s a breakdown of their favourite scent:
- Lemon/citrus – Gemini, Sagittarius, Capricorn
- Fresh linen – Taurus and Aquarius
- Vanilla – Aries
- Tea tree – Cancer
- Lavender – Leo
- Floral – Libra
- Apple – Scorpio
- Pine – Virgo
- Eucalyptus – Pisces
