Two local delivery drivers have been praised for saving a customer’s life after administrating CPR at his home in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Luke Reeves and Phil Blanchard were delivering a new cooker to Mrs June Kitchen, who lives in Treorchy, and they were performing safety tests when she went to check on her husband upstairs. After finding him unresponsive, Mrs Kitchen called 999 and alerted Luke and Phil, who were contracted to online electricals retailer AO.com that day.

Under the instruction of the emergency operators, they immediately began performing CPR on Mr Kitchen and managed to revive him with their actions. The paramedics soon arrived at the scene and rushed him to intensive care, thanking the crew for their quick thinking.

Mrs Kitchen said: “I’m so grateful to Luke and Phil for quickly stepping in to perform CPR and going beyond what was expected from them. Mr Kitchen is now doing well at home, and I’m so pleased the drivers are receiving the recognition they deserve – I can’t thank them enough.”

While Mr Kitchen was still in hospital, AO arranged for the cooker to be installed as quickly as possible, so the couple weren’t left without the appliance.

AO Founder and CEO, John Roberts, said: “I couldn’t be prouder of Luke and Phil. Their instinctive actions and quick thinking undoubtedly saved Mr Kitchen’s life and to everyone in AO, they are heroes. We all send our very best wishes to Mr and Mrs Kitchen particularly at this special time of year.”
