• Men are more likely to take selfies if they’re having a good hair day
  • Men think they are twice more likely as women to perform better at work if their hair perfectly styled

New research reveals the surprising link between the power of a good hair day and work productivity.

A new survey by electricals retailer AO has uncovered a surprising connection between hair confidence and work performance, especially among men.

Surveying 2,000 UK adults, the research found that men (17%) think that they are twice as likely as women (8%) to perform better at work when they have a good hair day.

Despite women spending more time on their hair daily – 9.2 minutes compared to 7.4 minutes for men – men report a greater productivity boost from feeling good about their hair.

In fact, 1 in 5 men say a good hair day makes them more productive, compared to 1 in 8 women.

Women feel more put-together (35%) and confident (48%). Whereas men socialise more (19%) and take more selfies (15%).

Katie Lilywhite AO’s hair care expert commented:

“It’s fascinating to see how something as simple as a good hair day can have such a tangible impact on confidence and productivity, especially among men.

“While women have long been more engaged in haircare routines, it’s clear to see that men are increasingly recognising the emotional and professional benefits of looking and feeling their best. With the right tools and a bit of know-how, anyone can harness that boost.

“It’s not just about vanity, it’s about empowerment, self-expression, and even career confidence.”

The study also revealed a gender divide in haircare habits. Over half of women (52%) turn to the internet when they run into issues with their hair tools, compared to just 28% of men.

Despite this, 11% of men admit they’re unsure how to use their hair tools, slightly more than the 9% of women who say the same.

Interestingly, men are also more likely to document their good hair days, with 15% saying they take more selfies when their hair is perfectly styled.

And while women may spend more time on their hair overall, men appear to be reaping unexpected benefits, both socially and professionally from feeling more confident in their look.
